Illegal immigrant sentenced on drug charges

Tuesday July 27th, 2010

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A Mexican man has been sentenced in

federal court in North Dakota for being an illegal immigrant and

being caught with 41 pounds of marijuana.

Acting U.S. Attorney Lynn Jordheim says 29-year-old Luis Alberto

Gomez-Hernandez was sentenced to one year and one day in federal

prison.

Gomez-Hernandez pleaded guilty in May to possession of marijuana

with intent to distribute and re-entry of deported alien.

Gomez-Hernandez was stopped on Interstate 94 in southeast North

Dakota in March, and a law officer discovered the drugs. Jordheim

says Gomez-Hernandez was to be paid $3,500 to transport the

marijuana from Washington state to Minnesota.
