Zebra mussels found in popular Minnesota lake
Thursday July 29th, 2010
MINNETONKA, Minn. (AP) - Zebra mussels have found their way to Lake Minnetonka. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday that DNR biologists confirmed a report that several tiny zebra mussels were found in the big lake in the western Twin Cities. The DNR says the pests were attached to rocks along the shore on the east side of Wayzata Bay near Highway 101. A resident discovered the zebra mussels earlier this week and reported his findings to the DNR. The DNR doesn't know how widespread the zebra mussel population is in Lake Minnetonka but says the number of zebra mussels found was very low. The young age of the zebra mussels suggests a reproducing population likely has been in the lake for at least a year.
