Tammi Schone Recognized for Twenty Years of Federal Service

Huron, South Dakota – July 29, 2010 Tammi Schone, Public Affairs Specialist for USDA Rural Development in Huron, was recently recognized by State Director Elsie M. Meeks for twenty years of service to the federal government.
Schone, a Redfield native, started her career with USDA in 1990 as a county office clerk in Pierre, while working for the formerly named Farmers Home Administration. In the same year she accepted a position in the state office in Huron, and has worked directly with state directors in her management position since that time. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen, with a double major in marketing and information technology.
“Tammi’s dedication and commitment serves USDA very well. Her attention to detail, technology and organizational skills greatly support our mission,” said Meeks. In addition, her flexibility and positive attitude are great assets to the agency and have been beneficial in moving the agency forward with the marketing and promotion of USDA Rural Development. We are very grateful that Tammi has been a part of this agency the past twenty years.”
Upon receiving her Service Award Tammi said, “My career has provided me with a unique opportunity of seeing the amazing results provided by the more than 40 programs and/or services offered through our agency to rural South Dakotans. Working at USDA has given me the good fortune to work with a diverse group of talented and professional individuals.”
Schone lives on a farm near Tulare, with her husband Brian. They have four children Rustin, Ashley, Tyler and Keilee.
USDA Rural Development has eight offices in the state that assist rural communities. Office locations include a state office in Huron, along with area offices in Aberdeen, Mitchell, Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls, Watertown, and Yankton.
USDA, under its Rural Development mission area, administers and manages more than 40 housing, business and community infrastructure and facility programs through a network of 6,100 employees located in 500 national, state and local offices. These programs are designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America. Rural Development has an existing portfolio of more than $134 billion in loans and loan guarantees.
