Local Sports...September 9, 2010

600 competitors are expected for the South Dakota Senior Games this Friday and Ssaturday in Watertown. Men and women ages 50 and over will be competing for medals in 20 events.  The weekend games are open which means residents from other states can participate.

Medals will be awarded to othe top 3 place winners in each event.

The meet is sanctioned by the National Senior Game Association with qualifiers eligible to compete in the national event in Houston next June.

Watertown hosted the event last year with competitors from Texas, Wyoming and Hawaii participating. Events will take place all over the city and the track portion taking place at Allen Mitchell Field.  Spectators are welcome to attend at no charge.

Cross Country and volleyball make up the high school sports scene for today and tonight.

DeSmet is hosting a cross country invitational this afternoon starting at 4 o'clock. Florence/Henry, Clark/Willow Lake and Lake Preston are among the teams competing this afternoon.

Local Sports...August 31, 2010

The Watertown Arrow Football Team along with Watertown Ford Chrysler, and Roy's Sports Shop is sponsoring the 2010 NFL, Punt, Pass and Kick Contest for boys and girls ages 6-15. The competition divided into five age devisions based on the child's age as of 12/3/10; 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15 for both girls and boys will be conducted at the Watertown Stadium on West Kemp Avenue on Thursday, September, 16th at 7 P.M.  Registration and warm-ups will begin at 6:15 P.M.  All registration materials will be at the stadium. Information flyers will be distributed to students in the Watertown schools.

The junior size football will be used for ages 6-11 and the intermediate size football will be used for ages 12-15.  No football shoes, cleats, or turf shoes will be permitted.  Tennis shoes only.

Footballs courtesy of Watertown Ford Chrysler and ribbons will be awarded to first, second and third places in all four age divisions for both boys and girls.  All participants will receive a certificate and a mouth guard compliments of Roy's Sports Shop.  Winners will qualify for the Eastern Division Championship to be held in Redfield, SD the first week in October.  Contact Nick Kranz at 886-7799 for additional information.

P.S. This is the first year for 6-7 year old participants.
